「増える」を表す単語はいくつもありますが、その中から基本表現を3つ紹介します。
「増える」を表す表現で特によく使われるのが「increase」「rise」「go up」です。お金や気温、人口の増加などで使われたり、物体などが上昇する際にも活用されます。increase→ rise→ go upの順で少しずつカジュアルになります。
【increase】
・Population in Tokyo is increasing recently.
(最近、東京の人口は増えている)
・The company's profit has increased by 15%.
(その会社の利益は15%増えた。)
・According to the weather forecast, the temperature will increase next week.
(天気予報によると、来週は気温が上がるだろう。)
increaseは ニュースやフォーマルな機会に使われることが多い表現です。

【rise】
・The sun rises in the East.
(太陽は東から昇る)
・The river's water of level rose due to the typhoon.
(台風のせいで川の水位が上がった)
→ rise -rose -risen 上る
【go up】
go upは カジュアルな会話でよく使われます。

A: It's getting hot these days.
B: Yeah! The temperature is going up. I think summer is finally here!
A: 近頃暑くなってきたね。
B: ほんと！気温が上がってきたね。ついに夏が来たって感じ！

B: Me too! It's crazy that the price of rice has doubled.
A: 最近、物価がどんどん値上がりしていて困ってるよ。
B: 同感だよ！お米の値段が2倍になるなんて、どうかしてるわ。
→ cost of living 物価
→ double 2倍になる (動詞)

B: No, it's going down.
A: このエレベーターは上に行き？
B: いや 、下行きだよ。
上記3つ以外にも、増えるのニュアンスを持つ表現はたくさんあります。例えば、体重増えたら『gain weigh』、人口増加には『grow』、店舗を増やすは『expand』です。文脈や状況に合った表現を徐々に身につけていきたいものですね。
