「〜 歳代」「〜年代」を英語で言うと？範囲や区分の英語表現

「20歳代」「1980年代」のような範囲や区分を表すときに使う英語表現を紹介します。 年齢、年代を英語で表すとき、~歳代は in one's 数字 + s,  ~年代は、in the 数字 + sで表すことができます。

例えばこんな例文で比較してみます。

・30代 →  She is in her 30s. (彼女は30代です。)

・1980年代→ He likes music in the 1980s. (彼は1980年代の音楽が好きです。)

~歳代の one'sには主語に応じた所有格を入れます。気をつけることは、theは付けないことです。

Miki is still in her teens！She can aim for the next Olympic too！
「Mikiは、まだ10代なんだって！次のオリンピックも狙えるね！」

There are families in their 20s and 30s living in this area.
(この地域には20代から30代の家族がたくさん住んでいる。)

People should try to keep at least 20 teeth in their 60s.
(60歳代で20本以上の歯を残すように努力するべきだ。)

There were the most children in Japan in the 1960s .

また、『in the 数字+s 』を使って、こんなふうにも言えます。

She always scores  in the 90s  on tests.
(彼女はいつもテストで90点台を取る←得点)

The temperature was in the 30s this week.
(今週、気温は30度台だった←気温)

Gas prices in my area are in the 120s.
（私のエリアのガソリン価格は120円台です← 価格）

He was driving in the 100s on the highway.
(彼は高速道路を100キロ台で走っていた← 速さ)

My high blood pressure is usually in the 130s.
(私の上の血圧は大抵130台です←血圧)

『in the 数字 +s』を覚えておけば、年齢、年代だけではなく、得点、気温、価格、速さ、血圧などの数値も簡単に表すことが可能です。
